Rates For Internal and External Users
Glossary
An internal user is any user who pays for facilities access, equipment rentals, and consumables using a UNM index.
An external user is any user who pays for facilities access, equipment rentals, and consumables using a funding source other than a UNM index.
An 'unassisted' rate is applied to a user who, in the judgment of the Nanoscience Lab Manager or appropriate designee, is fully trained on the equipment to be used.
An 'assisted' rate is applied in any of the cases listed below:
- To a user who, in the judgment of the Nanoscience Lab Manager or appropriate designee, requires a Nanoscience staff member to be present to assist in equipment operation.
- During a user training and certification session on equipment.
- When a staff member performs work for a user.
- When a staff member assists a trained user.
The billing cycle (also referred to as 'cycle') begins at 12:00 AM on the 16th of each month and ends at 11:59 PM on the 15th of the next month (i.e., March 16 to April 15).

*It includes:
- Access to the cleanroom.

**Tool-specific rates for the Voyager and the Pioneer e-beam systems are in addition to the cleanroom access rate specified in Table 1.
Additional Information
These rates are periodically reviewed and adjusted as necessary.
CHTM may cap hourly access to tools for external users to protect the workflow and scheduling needs of internal users.
